Two of Japan’s most iconic survival horror franchises are officially joining forces. Koei Tecmo America has announced a new collaboration between Konami’s Silent Hill f and the upcoming Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly remake.
This crossover brings two dormant giants back into the spotlight. Silent Hill remained largely quiet after 2012, while Fatal Frame slowed down after 2014. Now, both series are returning to their roots with a new partnership that has horror fans buzzing.
Free DLC & Costume Swaps
Koei Tecmo America confirmed the news via X. The collaboration will feature free “collaboration costumes” available as downloadable content (DLC).

While the developers have not released official images yet, the setup suggests a thematic outfit swap. Silent Hill f’s protagonist, Hinako, will likely receive outfits worn by Fatal Frame sisters Mio and Mayu. Conversely, the sisters are expected to wear Hinako’s school uniform.
The response from the community is largely positive. Fans are eager to see these classic Japanese horror properties reclaim the limelight. However, players remain curious if other legacy costumes, such as the swimsuits or yukatas from the original Xbox version of Fatal Frame 2, will also make the cut.
Release Dates & Platforms
You won’t have to wait long for the game itself. Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly launches on March 12, 2026. However, the developers have not yet announced a specific release date for the collaboration DLC.
Platform availability remains a key topic. Fatal Frame 2 is confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2. Currently, Silent Hill f is not confirmed for Nintendo’s new console. However, speculation suggests a Switch 2 port for Silent Hill f could appear at the upcoming Nintendo Direct in February. This follows the pattern of the Silent Hill 2 remake, which eventually came to Xbox after a year of PlayStation exclusivity.
Silent Hill f & Fatal Frame 2: A Thematic Match
This collaboration makes perfect sense on paper. Both titles share deep similarities in tone and setting. Silent Hill f takes players to 1960s Japan, while Fatal Frame 2 is set in the 1980s.
Both games focus on young female protagonists navigating terrifying scenarios inspired by Japanese folklore. The characters possess few tools for defence, forcing them to make difficult choices as their stories unfold. This shared DNA makes the crossover a natural fit for fans of traditional Japanese survival horror.
