Islamabad is tightening its grip on motorcycle tracking, setting a clear deadline for riders across the city. The district administration has rolled out the second phase of its motorcycle e-tag, or M-Tag, campaign, aiming to strengthen security checks in the federal capital.
The Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department confirmed that February 28 is the final date for motorcycle owners to install M-Tags under the new monitoring rules. After that, enforcement will move from warnings to action.
Director General of Excise Irfan Memon said owners can register their motorcycles and install M-Tags until February 28. However, from March 1, authorities will start impounding motorcycles without M-Tags. Riders will not be allowed to operate untagged bikes within Islamabad.
So far, officials say more than 2,000 motorcycles have received M-Tags during this second phase. The department expects that number to rise as the deadline approaches.
To manage the rush, M-Tag centers will remain open even on holidays. In addition, the department has assigned extra staff at registration centers to handle the increased workload. Officials want to ensure the process remains smooth for citizens.
The administration recently made electronic tagging mandatory due to security concerns. Authorities believe the system will improve monitoring and help law enforcement track vehicles more effectively. As a result, officials expect better crime control across the city.
At the same time, the government has urged citizens to comply before the deadline. With March 1 approaching, motorcycle owners now face a clear choice: install the M-Tag or risk having their vehicle seized.
