The redevelopment of Kutchery Chowk in Rawalpindi is rapidly approaching completion, with authorities confirming significant progress on the key infrastructure project aimed at easing traffic congestion in the city.
Commissioner Amir Khattak visited the site on Friday alongside officials from the Frontier Works Organization to review ongoing construction work.
Officials briefed the commissioner that construction is moving ahead at an accelerated pace, with work being carried out in double shifts. Overall completion has reached 76%, with key components progressing as follows:
- Utility ducts: 83% complete
- Pedestrian bridges: 50% complete
- Tube wells: 96% complete
- Retaining walls: 98% complete
Originally launched in November last year with an 18-month timeline, the project has now been fast-tracked. Authorities are targeting May 2026 for completion to minimize inconvenience for the public.
The commissioner also directed the highway department to immediately begin work on an elevated crossing between Jinnah Park and the District Courts area. This step aims to improve pedestrian and vehicular flow in one of the city’s busiest zones.
Meanwhile, the Parks and Horticulture Authority has been instructed to maintain high-quality standards while completing landscaping and related work.
Focus on Safety and Quality
While appreciating the performance of the construction teams, the commissioner stressed:
- Timely completion without compromising quality
- Proper installation of road signage
- Effective street lighting for public safety
The Kutchery Chowk remodeling project is expected to significantly improve traffic management and commuter experience in Rawalpindi once completed.
