Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab on Tuesday inaugurated the rehabilitation of Sakhi Hassan Road in North Nazimabad, calling it part of the city’s ongoing infrastructure upgrade efforts.
Speaking at the ceremony, the mayor said the project is included in a broader plan to construct and rehabilitate 26 roads and streets across Karachi, with development work worth Rs68 billion currently underway to address long-standing traffic and infrastructure challenges.
He noted that several projects, including Shahrah-i-Noor Jahan, have already been completed, while work continues on key routes such as Sher Shah Suri Road. Highlighting the Shahrah-i-Bhutto project, stretching from Qayyumabad to Kathore in Gadap Town, he said it will significantly improve traffic flow in the city.
The Sakhi Hassan Road project, costing approximately Rs140 million, will involve road rehabilitation, drainage system upgrades, and related civic works. The road will be converted into a dual carriageway spanning 0.883 kilometres with a width of 30 feet, and a drainage line of the same length will also be repaired.
Mayor Wahab explained that rainwater from nearby hilly areas had previously caused flooding issues for the Sakhi Hassan Graveyard and surrounding neighborhoods, including Shadman. The upgraded drainage system is expected to mitigate these problems and improve conditions for local residents.
