The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has announced a one-month waiver of schedule tax and stand tax for the transport sector to help reduce passenger fares across the province.
The decision was taken during a video-link meeting chaired by Commissioner Peshawar Division and Chairman of the Regional Transport Authority, Riaz Khan Mehsud.
Under the directive, both taxes have been waived for one month in all districts. Transporters have been instructed to pass on the full benefit of this relief to the public by lowering fares accordingly.
To ensure compliance, strict monitoring measures have been introduced. The commissioner directed the deployment of three assistant commissioners in each district to check fares at transport stands and major highways, while deputy commissioners have been tasked with personally supervising field operations.
Transporters have also been instructed to clearly display the government-approved fare list on the front of every vehicle to ensure transparency for passengers.
The decision follows recent inspections of passenger stands, GT Road, and motorway routes in Peshawar, with authorities aiming to ensure uniform implementation of reduced fares and maximum relief for the public.
