The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Provincial Assembly convened its first-ever open public session at Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar on Wednesday, marking a historic occasion.
According to the details, the session was moved from its usual premises to allow citizens to directly observe the work of their elected Provincial representatives in person.
Assembly officials stated the shift to an open venue was intended to strengthen transparency and improve public engagement with the democratic legislative process.
Speaker Babar Saleem Swati said the initiative was designed to encourage greater citizen involvement and build stronger direct connections between lawmakers and the people they represent.
A spokesperson for the assembly confirmed that members from both treasury and opposition benches had mutually agreed to participate in this open public arrangement.
Opposition Leader Dr Ibadullah welcomed the decision, stating the open setting would give the opposition a platform to question the performance of provincial government publicly.
It is pertinent to mention that Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, formerly known as Arbab Niaz Stadium, remains the only international cricket venue in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The stadium hosted 15 One Day Internationals and six Test matches between 1984 and 2006, with no international fixtures held there since February 2006.
The iconic venue was also scheduled to host one of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) eleventh edition matches but was later cancelled due to security concerns.
