The Sindh government has announced the purchase of one thousand additional pink electric scooters to improve transportation access for women across the province.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon confirmed the decision following a transport and mass transit department meeting attended by senior provincial officials.
Memon, who holds the information, transport, and mass transit portfolio, chaired the meeting alongside Transport Secretary Asad Zamin and other key officials.
Intercity bus service to connect five cities
The government has announced plans to launch a new intercity Peoples Bus Service to expand the mass transit network across Sindh’s major cities.
New intercity bus services will soon be introduced in five cities, including Larkana, Dadu, Sehwan, Hyderabad, and Sanghar, officials confirmed at the meeting.
Two new transport routes linking Khairpur with Rohri and Khairpur with Ranipur are scheduled to begin operating as early as next week.
New buses and upgraded routes planned for Karachi
Plans are currently underway to introduce new electric vehicle buses and double-decker buses to serve the growing commuter population in Karachi.
Additional buses are also expected to arrive in Karachi over the coming months, further improving daily travel facilities for the city’s residents.
The meeting agreed to introduce more double-decker and hybrid buses as part of broader efforts to modernise Sindh’s provincial mass transit system.
EV scooter registration issues to be resolved
Minister Memon directed relevant authorities to immediately resolve ongoing registration issues that are currently affecting the pink electric vehicle scooter distribution programme.
The meeting also reviewed EV taxi services, new Peoples Bus Service routes, and several ongoing and proposed mass transit infrastructure projects across Sindh.
Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Saleemullah Odho attended the meeting alongside other officials to discuss the transport expansion plans in detail.
