Punjab provincial cabinet has formally approved amendments creating a legal framework for teenagers aged 16 to 18 to obtain motorcycle permits under revised legislation.
Officials confirmed the cabinet decision during an official meeting, where key changes to the Motor Vehicle Rules of 1969 were endorsed under the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act 2026.
The amendments specifically target Section 4 of the Punjab Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965, introducing juvenile driving permits for teenagers legally authorised to operate motorcycles on public roads.
The Home Department presented the proposal, emphasising that the new law establishes a structured system for young riders previously operating motorcycles without official permits or authorisation.
Under the approved measure, teenagers above 16 but below 18 will be issued juvenile motorcycle permits, ensuring compliance with provincial regulations and creating uniform standards across Punjab.
