Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has announced a major railway modernization project under which 1,600 kilometers of railway tracks across Punjab will be upgraded to improve connectivity and transport infrastructure.
She said the initiative is expected to benefit more than 80 million people across the province.
The announcement came during a meeting with Hanif Abbasi, where both leaders reviewed progress on the upgradation of eight major railway routes in Punjab.
The meeting also included discussions on the proposed Lahore-Rawalpindi fast train project, which is being considered one of Punjab’s key transport development initiatives.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said the railway upgradation project is being carried out under the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz after studying modern railway systems from around the world.
She stated that the upgraded railway network would improve regional connectivity and strengthen transportation links throughout Punjab.
According to officials, the project includes modernization of railway routes from Shahdara to Narowal, Narowal to Sialkot, Lala Musa, Malikwal, and Sargodha.
The plan also covers Faisalabad, Chak Jhumra, Shaheenabad, Shorkot, and Jhang railway sections.
Additional cities and areas included in the project are Sheikhupura, Jaranwala, Raiwind, Pakpattan, Lodhran, Kot Addu, and Dera Ghazi Khan.
