Pakistan Railways has reported a profit of Rs. 2.41 billion during the fiscal year 2024-25, marking the second consecutive year the state-run institution has remained profitable.
The Ministry of Railways informed the National Assembly during Question Hour that Pakistan Railways generated revenue of Rs. 93.60 billion against expenditures of Rs. 91.18 billion during the fiscal year.
According to the ministry, this is the first time in the department’s history that Pakistan Railways has recorded profits for two straight years.
Officials stated that the institution had posted a loss of Rs. 8.46 billion just two years ago before returning to profitability.
The ministry attributed the financial turnaround primarily to increased earnings from passenger and freight operations, which significantly improved overall revenue generation.
Higher income from both sectors helped Pakistan Railways cross the Rs. 93 billion revenue mark for the first time.
The ministry said the latest financial results indicate that the organization’s finances are gradually stabilizing after years of operational losses and financial challenges.
However, authorities added that additional reforms and measures are still being implemented to further strengthen the institution’s financial sustainability and long-term operational performance.
