A new rumor suggests that Apple may equip the iPhone 18 with 12GB of RAM, a notable upgrade from the 8GB found in the upcoming iPhone 17. The additional memory is reportedly needed to support advanced Siri AI features powered by Apple’s most capable on-device language model.
According to the source, the next-generation Siri experience will bring more natural and expressive voices. Users may also get customization sliders to personalize Siri’s voice. In addition, Apple is expected to improve system-wide dictation accuracy. However, these features may not be available on the iPhone 17 because its 8GB of RAM falls below the reported 12GB requirement.
Reports about the memory upgrade have circulated for months. A source in April claimed that the iPhone 18 would feature 12GB of RAM. Even earlier, a similar rumor surfaced in October 2025. The latest report adds weight to those claims, especially as rising memory costs had raised questions about whether Apple would move forward with the upgrade.
Interestingly, the report also claims that Apple plans to absorb the higher RAM costs rather than pass them on to customers. As a result, the standard iPhone 18 could launch at the same $799 starting price as its predecessor in the US.
If Apple maintains that price point, the company could gain a stronger competitive position against Android smartphone makers, many of which continue to face increasing component costs.
The iPhone 18 is expected to arrive in spring 2027. Apple is also rumored to launch the iPhone 18e and possibly the iPhone Air 2 at the same event. Meanwhile, the premium lineup, including the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Ultra, is expected to debut in September.
