The Punjab government has decided to seize vehicles distributed under the Chief Minister E-Taxi scheme following its failure to meet operational targets.
The decision comes after investigations revealed that multiple beneficiaries are using the subsidized vehicles for private domestic purposes rather than operating them as commercial taxi services.
The Punjab Transport Department has launched a formal verification process to audit all individuals who received vehicles under the program. Officials noted that several buyers removed the official Punjab government-approved prints and designs from the vehicles to disguise them as private cars.
The provincial government clarified that legal action and vehicle repossessions will strictly target beneficiaries who failed to utilize the vehicles for commercial transport.
Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan confirmed that the government maintains complete records of all program recipients. He stated that any e-taxis found parked at homes or used exclusively for personal transport will be confiscated immediately.
The Punjab government originally allocated 4 billion PKR in subsidies to launch the eco-friendly transport initiative.
Under the scheme, 1,100 e-taxis were distributed to beneficiaries via interest-free, flexible installment plans intended to generate employment and introduce green transport options to the province.
