The Communications and Works Ministry has dismissed as false and misleading a viral notice circulating on social media that claims toll tax rates on motorways and highways have been increased from July 1.
The notice, widely shared across WhatsApp and other social media platforms, lists revised toll charges for various vehicle categories and presents them as an official notification. However, no authentic government notification or official announcement has been issued to support the claims.
In a public statement, the ministry clarified that reports regarding revised toll tax rates are incorrect and urged citizens not to rely on unverified information circulating online.
The ministry advised the public to obtain updates only through official government websites and verified social media accounts, warning that the viral notice does not represent an official policy or decision.
It also appealed to citizens to refrain from sharing or forwarding misleading content that could create unnecessary confusion among commuters.
The misleading notice sparked uncertainty by suggesting that new toll rates had already come into effect nationwide. However, the document lacks key elements typically found in official government notifications, including a reference number, notification details, issuing authority, and implementation instructions.
Authorities noted that any revision in motorway or highway toll charges is formally announced through official notifications issued by the relevant department. Such notifications include complete documentation, implementation dates, and category-wise toll rates.
The ministry reiterated that no such official notification has been issued regarding an increase in motorway or highway toll taxes and encouraged the public to verify information through authorized government channels before sharing it.
