Samsung has announced a new OLED laptop display that has earned VESA’s latest DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification. The company says it is already supplying the panel to laptop makers.
The new display standard was introduced by VESA a few weeks ago. It raises the brightness requirement by 40% over the previous top-tier standard. As the name suggests, certified displays must reach up to 1,400 nits under specific test conditions.
Samsung’s Tandem OLED Reaches 1,400 Nits
The DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification requires deep black levels of 0.0005 nits or lower. At the same time, the display must deliver 1,400 nits with a 10% on-pixel ratio. This means 10% of the screen shows white pixels, while the remaining 90% displays black. Samsung achieved these results through a tandem OLED design.
The technology uses two OLED panels stacked on top of each other. This setup helps the display reach higher peak brightness levels. However, Samsung says the design also improves panel durability.
Because two panels share the workload, each layer faces less stress during normal use. As a result, Samsung claims the new tandem OLED panel can last more than twice as long as a single-stack OLED panel.
The company also introduced new organic emissive materials. These materials further improve the panel’s performance and help extend its lifespan.
Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Gets the New OLED Panel
Samsung’s new tandem OLED technology has already reached the market through Lenovo’s 11th-generation Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition. The laptop features a 16-inch touchscreen with a 3.2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Lenovo markets the display under its PureSight Pro Tandem OLED branding.
The panel carries VESA’s DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification. It can also reach a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. Color performance is another key feature of the display. The panel covers 100% of the sRGB and DCI-P3 color spaces. It also offers 99% coverage of AdobeRGB.
These specifications make the display suitable for users who need accurate colors. This includes creative professionals, content creators, and other demanding users.
Powerful Hardware
The Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition offers several hardware configurations. Buyers can choose between Intel Core Ultra 7 and Core Ultra 9 processors. The available chips include the Core Ultra 7 356H and Core Ultra 9 386H. Graphics options include Nvidia GeForce RTX 5050 and RTX 5060 laptop GPUs.
Both graphics chips come with 8GB of VRAM. The laptop also includes 32GB of soldered LPDDR5X memory. The memory runs at 7,467MT/s. For storage, Lenovo offers either a 512GB or 1TB PCIe Gen 4 TLC SSD. The laptop measures 17.2mm in thickness and weighs 1.9kg.

More Laptops With Tandem OLED
Samsung’s new tandem OLED panel will not remain exclusive to Lenovo. Other laptop manufacturers are also expected to use the technology. Asus, Dell, and MSI are among the companies expected to launch laptops with Samsung’s new display. These models are expected to arrive during the second half of this year.
Meanwhile, Samsung plans to showcase the new tandem OLED panel at K-Display 2026. The event will take place in Seoul from July 22 to July 24.
The new certification and Samsung’s tandem OLED technology could push laptop displays toward higher brightness and longer lifespans. As more manufacturers adopt the panels, premium laptops may soon offer brighter HDR visuals without sacrificing OLED durability.
