The Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi has announced a local holiday for all educational institutions within Tehsil Rawalpindi on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, due to the Chehlum procession.
According to an official notification issued on Monday, the holiday will be observed by all government and private schools, colleges, and universities located within the municipal limits of Tehsil Rawalpindi.
The notification, however, clarified that educational institutions situated in cantonment areas will remain exempt from the holiday and may continue their normal operations.
In addition to the educational institution closure, the district administration has ordered markets and commercial establishments located on or along the Chehlum procession route to remain closed to facilitate security arrangements and maintain law and order.
The order was issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Rawalpindi, under powers delegated by the Punjab government’s Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD).
The district administration has urged residents, educational institutions, and business owners to cooperate with authorities and make necessary arrangements in view of the closures to ensure the peaceful and smooth conduct of the Chehlum procession.
