Punjab has decided to launch a series of mega sports events across its educational institutions between October and December, as part of a broader plan to revive sports activities in schools province-wide.
The decision was made at a meeting chaired by Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, during which officials approved a tiered competition structure spanning tehsil, district, divisional and provincial levels. The final event will be hosted by the Lahore Board in December.
Prize money for top performers has also been increased, with first, second and third-position winners set to receive Rs500,000, Rs300,000 and Rs100,000 respectively. Rana Sikandar Hayat said students who excel in these competitions will be given opportunities to showcase their abilities at national and international levels.
The minister added that no compromise would be made on the quality of sports kits provided to students. Sports committees have already been established in all 35,000 schools across Punjab, and sports equipment has so far been distributed to 450 schools.
Rana Sikandar Hayat said the government’s objective is to promote sports in educational institutions to help students realize their potential and advance at the provincial, national and international levels.
