Housemarque recently revealed a massive free update for its critically acclaimed PS5 sci-fi shooter, Saros. The studio announced the Saros “Zenith” update during PlayStation’s September State of Play. This expansion will launch later in 2026. Furthermore, it significantly expands the endgame experience for players who have already mastered the core mechanics.

Saros ‘Zenith’ Update Brings Overlord Rush & Eclipse Layers
Saros already offers permanent progression and resource systems. However, the Zenith update introduces a brand new mode called Overlord Rush. This boss rush mode pits players directly against the game’s Overlords in back-to-back fights. Additionally, it tracks player performance on global online leaderboards. Therefore, this mode directly calls back to Housemarque’s arcade roots, mirroring classic developer titles like ‘Resogun’ and ‘Nex Machina’. Ultimately, it injects a competitive edge into an otherwise single-player journey.
The second major addition is Eclipse Layers. This acts as a heavily modified New Game Plus mode. Consequently, players who finish the main story can restart a significantly harder version of the campaign. Meanwhile, they will continue upgrading protagonist Arjun Devraj’s abilities. Moreover, Eclipse Layers introduces Carcosan Modifiers that directly alter subsequent playthroughs. Players will also discover new hidden secrets and earn additional trophies while exploring a constantly changing Carcosa.
Better Accessibility for Frantic Combat
Housemarque did not just focus on making the game harder. Instead, the developers also prioritized approachability. The Zenith update introduces gyro aiming support and high-contrast visual settings. Most importantly, it adds an option to slow down the overall game speed. As a result, players get more tools to handle the game’s difficult encounters and projectile-heavy combat.
