Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6 is actively evolving Rockstar’s open-world formula. Furthermore, the sequel introduces highly detailed systems for vehicle theft and police pursuits. However, the gunplay is also receiving a massive upgrade. Specifically, GTA 6 is borrowing the iconic gun feature, ‘Dead Eye’, from Red Dead Redemption 2. Recently, the Extended Look on Netflix showcased the game in action. Additionally, Rockstar is currently working directly with Miami to push more marketing. With the official release arriving in November, fans are finally spotting these expanded mechanics.
How the New GTA 6 Gun Feature Works
Slow-motion combat previously appeared in GTA 5 through ‘Michael De Santa’. Now, GTA 6 takes this basic concept in a much more recognizable direction. As seen in the recent extended footage, the game features a purple meter located underneath the health bar. Moreover, this dedicated meter displays a distinct eye icon. During dangerous encounters, the action clearly unfolds in slow motion.
Therefore, the connection to Red Dead Redemption 2 is undeniable. Currently, Rockstar has not officially named this ability “Dead Eye”. Regardless, players will definitely need to manage this meter carefully during intense shootouts.
Is this a Jason Exclusive Combat Skill?
Interestingly, this slow-motion ability might remain exclusive to one protagonist. So far, only Jason actively uses the feature in the footage. Reportedly, Jason relies on his background in basic military training. Conversely, Lucia utilizes advanced martial arts training to develop her fighting technique. As a result, this specific Dead Eye system perfectly fits Jason’s distinct combat style. Currently, Rockstar has not detailed exactly how the meter recharges. Likewise, we do not know if the ability evolves over time. Ultimately, the studio is successfully adapting a classic Western combat mechanic for a modern crime story.
