The Serving Schools Association has called on the government to immediately reduce the Class 9 and 10 syllabus, citing limited teaching days during the current academic year.
Association President Raza-ur-Rehman said students have attended classes for only 45 days despite half of the academic year having already passed. With around four months remaining before the annual matriculation examinations, schools may struggle to complete the full syllabus.
He said winter vacations, Eid-ul-Fitr and Basant holidays could further reduce classroom time, leaving schools with only around 60 additional teaching days before the exams.
The association also demanded an end to unannounced school holidays, saying frequent closures were affecting students and teachers. Raza-ur-Rehman said the matriculation syllabus was too extensive for the limited teaching time available.
He warned that completing the full syllabus under the current circumstances could affect students’ examination performance and increase the risk of failures. The association has urged education authorities to announce a syllabus reduction for Classes 9 and 10 as soon as possible.
