Federal Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to complete the Multan-Muzaffargarh-Mianwali highway within two months.
The directive was issued during a meeting reviewing ongoing highway projects and proposals for new roads. Khan also instructed the NHA to prepare a feasibility study for a 123-kilometer model road between Mansehra and Naran, which could support tourism and trade with China.
The NHA has also decided to proceed with international tendering for the Guru Nanak Expressway. Khan said the project holds religious significance for the Sikh community and called for international investment. The government plans to invite Sikh communities in the UK, Canada and the US to invest in the project.
The meeting also reviewed construction on sections of the GT Road between Rawalpindi and Peshawar. Khan directed the NHA to ensure all required safety features are implemented on the Multan-Muzaffargarh-Mianwali highway.
The authority will also construct safety railings during the expansion of the Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad section of the M-4 Motorway. Khan further directed the NHA to provide rest areas and washrooms on both sides of new highways.
The minister also ordered green belts to be made mandatory on new highways and motorways, with horticulture included as a formal component of road projects. He directed the NHA to accelerate ongoing development work and ensure newly completed roads are safe and visually appealing.
