Video-sharing platform TikTok has announced a new artificial intelligence feature enabling users to remix videos and generate images within comment sections on the platform.
The company said the feature introduces new interaction methods, allowing users to create visual responses instead of relying only on text-based comments in videos.
AI Feature and Core Functionality
The feature, called Meme Remixer, allows users to alter existing videos by modifying elements such as faces, voices, and backgrounds using artificial intelligence tools.
Users can generate new images from original content, effectively transforming visuals while maintaining a connection to the source video shared by another account on the platform.
This system enables content to be reinterpreted visually, with artificial intelligence producing variations that reflect different scenes, styles, or creative alterations based on the original upload.
Default Settings and User Control
TikTok confirmed a new privacy setting will accompany the feature, which is enabled by default for all users when the tool becomes available.
If the setting remains active, other users will be allowed to remix videos using artificial intelligence, creating new content derived from the original uploaded material.
However, users will retain the option to disable this setting, preventing others from applying artificial intelligence tools to their videos for remixing or modification purposes.
The company said this approach is designed to balance creative flexibility with user control, ensuring individuals can manage how their content is reused by others.
Use Cases and Visual Interaction
Under the Meme Remixer feature, users can transform ordinary scenes into different environments, generating alternative images that reinterpret the original visual context.
For example, a video showing a city location can be altered into a beach setting or another environment using artificial intelligence tools available within the platform.
These generated images are then shared directly in the comment section of the original video, creating a visual conversation between users.
TikTok said this feature is intended to expand how users engage with content, allowing image-based replies that complement or replace traditional written comments.
Availability and Testing Phase
The company confirmed that the Meme Remixer feature is currently in an experimental phase and is not yet available to all users globally.
TikTok said it is testing the feature with a limited group of users to evaluate performance, usability, and user response before considering a wider rollout.
No timeline has been provided for full availability, and the company has not disclosed specific regions where the feature is currently being tested.
