The Punjab government has launched its first electric bus service in Attock, introducing nine electric buses under the Green Transport Initiative to provide residents with affordable, safe, and environmentally friendly public transportation.
In the first phase, the buses will operate on two major routes across the district. The first route will run from POF Sanjwal Barrier No. 2 to Hazro via Bab-i-Attock, covering 26 bus stops. The second route will connect Government College of Technology, Dhok Fateh, and Attock Khurd, serving 19 bus stops.
The provincial government has announced free travel for students, women, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities, making the service more accessible to key segments of the population.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, where officials and guests watched Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s address through a live broadcast. The launch marks the first phase of the electric bus project in Attock and is part of the Punjab government’s broader strategy to modernize public transport and promote environmentally sustainable mobility.
Speaking at the ceremony, MNA Sheikh Aftab Ahmed described the initiative as a major public welfare project. He said the electric bus service would provide residents with comfortable, affordable, and modern transportation while helping reduce daily commuting challenges across the district.
The Attock project follows the Punjab government’s ongoing expansion of electric bus services to multiple districts as part of its clean and sustainable urban transport program.
