The Academic Council of Government College University (GCU) Lahore has recommended major academic reforms, including the introduction of a mandatory Artificial Intelligence course for all BS students as part of a revised curriculum framework.
The recommendations were approved during the 36th Academic Council meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry, with more than 70 faculty members, professors, and departmental heads in attendance. Over 30 agenda items were discussed during the session.
Alongside curriculum changes, the council also proposed adopting an open merit policy for BS admissions, with limited exceptions only for subject-specific requirements or conditions set by accredited external bodies.
The meeting further recommended the launch of nine new academic programs, including a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Film and Media and an Associate Degree Program (ADP) in Computer Science.
Officials said the proposed reforms aim to modernize academic offerings and align degree programs with emerging technological and industry demands, particularly in artificial intelligence and digital skills.
The recommendations will be forwarded for further approval before implementation.
