The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has formally approved dual and joint-degree programmes for universities across the country starting immediately.
According to the details, students may now enrol in two separate degree programmes at the same time under the newly approved Higher Education Commission policy.
Admission to dual programmes does not require students to belong to the same department or academic discipline at their university.
Joint Degrees
Under joint-degree arrangements, students will complete part of their studies at one university and the remainder at another institution.
Universities wishing to offer joint degrees must first sign an HEC-approved memorandum of understanding before launching any such academic programme.
Students will additionally be eligible to earn joint degrees through formal partnerships between Pakistani universities and recognised foreign institutions abroad.
Karachi University Exams at Risk Over Teachers Boycott
In another development, the Karachi University Teachers Association has announced a boycott of semester examinations that were scheduled to begin on 5 May.
The association warned that examinations will not proceed until the university administration addresses its longstanding demands satisfactorily and formally.
Teachers cited a consistent lack of administrative progress on unresolved issues as the primary reason behind their decision to boycott.
A general body meeting was convened on seventh May at ten in the morning to determine the teachers’ next course of action.
The association also plans to formally write to the Chief Minister of Sindh, requesting financial accountability regarding the university’s administrative affairs.
