A major infrastructure project has been launched to connect Margalla Road directly with the motorway, aiming to ease traffic congestion and improve travel convenience for residents of the federal capital.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the project site on Tuesday to review construction progress and received a detailed briefing from officials on the scope and timeline of the development.
The project includes the construction of a 2.7-kilometre-long road featuring three lanes on each side, along with a two-lane service road. To ensure smooth traffic flow, two underpasses and one bridge will also be built along the GT Road.
Officials said the initiative is designed to provide a faster and more efficient route between Islamabad and the motorway, reducing pressure on existing roads and significantly cutting travel time for commuters.
During the visit, the minister directed authorities to complete the Sangjani Interchange on GT Road by July 31, 2026, to ensure seamless connectivity with the motorway network.
The project is expected to play a key role in easing traffic congestion in surrounding areas by offering an alternative route for daily commuters. Mohsin Naqvi emphasized the government’s commitment to improving urban infrastructure and providing better travel facilities to citizens.
He also stressed the importance of maintaining high standards of quality, transparency, and efficiency throughout the construction process, adding that all necessary resources would be utilized to ensure timely completion.
According to officials, the project is scheduled for completion by December 2026, with a 2.5-kilometre section being developed by the Punjab government. Senior officials, including representatives from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad administration, were present during the inspection.
