The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced outsourcing of provincial government schools, extending earlier hospital outsourcing measures.
According to the media reports, the provincial education department confirmed approval of outsourcing plans covering 2,000 government primary schools.
Officials reported 500 schools already outsourced, with each institution receiving Rs300,000 monthly from government funds to cover staff salaries and operational expenses.
Authorities stated 233 schools in winter zone areas have been outsourced, where enrollment increased 89 percent, rising from 4,086 students previously to 7,718 currently.
The education department highlighted performance targets, aiming to raise enrollment from 40 students per school to 180 within one year under contractual agreements.
Officials confirmed contracts will be terminated if performance targets are not achieved, ensuring accountability and measurable progress within the outsourced education framework.
At the time of making the decision in October 2025, it was reported that the current cost per student in public schools in the province stood at Rs3,517 per month.
This figure was expected to drop to Rs1,667 per student. The government stated the move would improve resource utilization and raise academic standards.
The provincial education department identified underperforming schools and students for the programme, where forty percent students from 4,147 public schools were categorized underperforming during assessments.
Officials decided the initiative would be implemented through three phases, covering 500 schools during the first phase and 1,000 schools during second phase implementation period.
The third phase will include 2,000 schools, while authorities will allocate a monthly budget of Rs300,000 per school for effective management and operational efficiency purposes.
