Microsoft has given Windows 10 users more time to receive security updates. The company has quietly extended its Extended Security Updates (ESU) program by another year, allowing eligible users to stay protected until October 12, 2027.
The ESU program was introduced last year for Windows 10 users who sign in with a Microsoft account. At first, Microsoft planned to provide extended security updates only until October 13, 2026. After that date, support was expected to end completely.
However, Microsoft has now changed its plans. The company has extended the program for an additional year. As a result, eligible Windows 10 users can continue receiving important security updates until October 12, 2027.
The decision comes as many users continue to stay on Windows 10 instead of upgrading to Windows 11. While Microsoft has actively encouraged users to switch to its latest operating system, a large number of people still prefer Windows 10.
With this extension, users who are not ready to move to Windows 11 will have more time to use Windows 10 without missing critical security updates.
Microsoft has not shared whether it will extend the ESU program again after October 2027. For now, the company has only confirmed one additional year of support, leaving the future of Windows 10 security updates uncertain.
