Developer Pearl Abyss continues its rapid-fire support for Crimson Desert. Yesterday, on May 8, the studio teased the game’s next major patch. This upcoming update will arrive within the next few days. It promises new gameplay mechanics and significant quality-of-life improvements.
Hello Greymanes,
We'd like to share some info about the schedule and major update content of our next patch.
The update will be released within the next few days and will include new special mounts, an extraction feature that will allow you to recover materials used in equipment…— Crimson Desert (@CrimsonDesert_) May 8, 2026
New Extraction Feature & Special Mounts
The upcoming patch introduces a brand-new extraction feature. Importantly, this mechanic does not refer to the extraction game genre. Instead, it allows players to recover valuable materials previously spent on equipment upgrades and refinement. Currently, the exact refund rates and mechanics remain unknown.
Furthermore, the update adds new special mounts to the game. These new creatures will join the existing roster, which already features options like the Polar Bear and the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex.
Interestingly, Pearl Abyss operates without a dedicated post-launch roadmap. The studio chose this strategy intentionally, following the game’s initial launch in March 2026. Rather than following a rigid schedule, the developers rely heavily on direct player feedback and gameplay telemetry. Consequently, this agile approach has generated positive word of mouth and actively contributed to the game’s sales.
Crimson Desert Building on the May 1 Update
This upcoming patch follows closely behind the massive May 1 update. That previous patch introduced the highly requested ‘Rematch’ and ‘Re-blockade’ systems.
Specifically, the Rematch option lets players fight defeated bosses again. Players can tackle these enemies at their original difficulty or use the “Resonate” option to scale the boss to their current level. Additionally, the game refunds any consumables used during these encounters. Currently, rematches yield no loot. However, Pearl Abyss remains open to changing this restriction in the future.
Meanwhile, the Re-blockade feature addressed a major endgame progression blocker. Previously, clearing the map stopped enemies from respawning. Therefore, players could not finish challenges or acquire endgame loot. Now, players can directly control enemy respawn rates in cleared areas. They can set enemies to respawn slowly, frequently, or not at all. Currently, this feature affects 23 forts and quarries. Pearl Abyss fully intends to expand this coverage down the road.
