The Pakistan Airports Authority (Pakistan Airports Authority) has announced a major upgrade of air traffic control systems at Karachi and Lahore airports after receiving key approval for the project.
According to officials, the initiative aims to enhance the safety, accuracy, and efficiency of flight operations at both of Pakistan’s busiest aviation hubs. The upgrade will include the installation of advanced air traffic control technology along with a modern flight management system for the Karachi and Lahore Flight Information Regions.
The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved the project’s PC-1, clearing the way for its implementation. Authorities said the existing systems will be replaced with more advanced infrastructure to handle increasing air traffic in the country.
An international tender will be issued in the coming days, after which installation work is expected to begin. The PAA stated that the new systems will significantly improve aircraft monitoring, navigation support, and overall operational control at the two airports.
