Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched a modern “Proof of Life” certificate system aimed at making pension verification easier and more convenient for pensioners across Pakistan.
Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, the prime minister said pensioners will no longer be required to visit banks every six months under the new system. They will also be able to complete their registration from home.
The initiative will benefit both civilian and military pensioners, particularly elderly people, women, and persons with disabilities.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described facilitating pensioners and reducing their difficulties as an important public service.
He appreciated the efforts of relevant authorities, including the Chairman of NADRA, for developing the new system.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said the initiative is part of the government’s broader digital transformation drive aimed at making public services more accessible and improving transparency.
He highlighted the role of NADRA’s PakID mobile application, through which several public services have already been digitized.
The finance minister said pensioners often face difficulties when visiting banks every six months, particularly when their fingerprints cannot be verified through biometric systems.
He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had directed relevant ministries to develop a solution to the biometric verification issue.
Muhammad Aurangzeb further stated that banks would be informed that after the introduction of the new system, pension payments should not be stopped solely because a pensioner’s fingerprints cannot be verified.
The new Proof of Life system is expected to reduce the need for elderly and vulnerable pensioners to make repeated bank visits while making the pension verification process more accessible through digital services.
