The Punjab government has allocated Rs. 200 million for the feasibility study of a proposed high-speed train connecting Rawalpindi and Lahore under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2026-27.
According to official documents, the total cost of the feasibility study is estimated at Rs. 452 million. The study will assess the project’s technical, financial, and operational feasibility before any construction work begins.
Background: The proposed high-speed rail project is part of Punjab’s long-term transport modernization strategy aimed at improving regional connectivity. The initiative follows a series of infrastructure development plans focused on reducing travel time between major cities and upgrading the province’s rail network to modern standards.
The proposed rail link is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Lahore and Rawalpindi while offering a faster and more efficient transport option for passengers.
The allocation is part of the provincial government’s broader plan to modernize transport infrastructure through major rail and road development projects.
