Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a series of major road infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and accelerating development across the province.
During a special meeting, the chief minister gave approval for the SL-4 Lahore Ring Road project and granted in-principle approval for the Sialkot Ring Road section from Wazirabad Road to Sialkot Pasrur Road. These projects are expected to ease traffic congestion and enhance intercity travel.
She also reviewed progress on the Multan–Vehari Road, directing authorities to ensure timely completion while maintaining high construction standards. Officials briefed that base and sub-base work has already been completed, and asphalt laying is currently underway.
In addition, a proposal was presented for the Thal Expressway, which will connect Bhakkar and Layyah with the M-4 Motorway, aiming to improve regional accessibility and economic activity. Progress on the Rawalpindi Signal-Free Corridor was also reviewed, where plans include the construction of seven underpasses and one overhead bridge to streamline urban traffic flow.
Officials informed the meeting that Punjab’s road sector currently includes 2,143 projects, with 258 under construction. Under the Road Rehabilitation Program Phase-I, more than 80 schemes were launched, with 38 completed and 47 still in progress. In Phase-II, over 40 schemes were initiated, 18 completed, and 25 remain underway.
Maryam Nawaz directed all departments to complete ongoing road projects by June 30 and submit regular progress reports. She emphasized that improved road infrastructure is essential for balanced regional development, better connectivity, and economic growth across Punjab.
