Punjab Educational Institutions Closure Announced Amid Pak India War

LAHORE: The provincial government has announced a province-wide Punjab educational institutions closure for May 9 and 10 as fears of a full-fledged Pak-India war grip citizens of the nuclear-armed neighbors.

Punjab’s Minister for Education Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed on Thursday that all educational institutions—including private and government-run schools, colleges, and universities—will be closed for two days, Friday and Saturday, to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and staff. This move comes as part of precautionary measures in response to the rising tensions in the region.

The minister emphasized that Punjab schools, colleges, and universities closure orders are mandatory for all institutions without exception. Educational activities will resume from Monday, 12 May 2025, as per the normal schedule.

British Council Exam Cancelled for Lahore as War Clouds Darken

The announcement follows growing security alerts in Lahore and other major cities. Earlier, the British Council also cancelled all GCE, IGCSE, IELTS, and University of London exams scheduled for the afternoon of 8 May 2025, citing safety concerns. The British Council advised candidates to stay updated through official platforms.

Authorities have advised students and parents to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay tuned to official updates regarding the reopening of institutions. The decision for a Punjab educational institutions closure aligns with broader efforts to minimize public gatherings and safeguard citizens as regional tensions remain elevated.
