The Environmental Protection Agency Punjab has announced a province-wide deadline of June 30, 2026, for vehicle owners to comply with emission testing requirements aimed at reducing air pollution and improving environmental standards.
The move is part of the Punjab government’s broader “Transport Vision 2030” strategy focused on promoting cleaner transportation and tackling worsening smog levels across the province.
Under the revised policy, the government has introduced a tiered fee structure for emission certification based on vehicle engine capacity.
Vehicles with engines of 1000cc and below will be charged Rs. 500, while vehicles between 1001cc and 1500cc will pay Rs. 800. Owners of vehicles ranging from 1501cc to 2500cc will be charged Rs. 1,000, while vehicles between 2501cc and 4500cc will require a fee of Rs. 1,500. Vehicles with engine capacities above 4500cc will pay Rs. 2,000 for certification.
Authorities said the Vehicle Inspection and Certification System (VICS) is being expanded across Punjab to facilitate vehicle testing and certification.
In addition to major testing hubs in Lahore, the system is operational in cities including Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan.
Several testing stations have also been established at key locations in Lahore, including Liberty, Thokar Niaz Baig, and DHA.
Officials said a total of 39 VICS stations are planned across all districts of Punjab to strengthen road safety measures and improve air quality monitoring.
The government has now moved from a voluntary compliance phase to strict enforcement. Vehicle owners whose cars fail the emission test will be given a seven-day grace period to tune their engines before applying for a retest.
Authorities warned that during periods of severe pollution, vehicles without valid green stickers could be barred from entering major urban centers, particularly Lahore, as part of anti-smog measures.
Strict legal action will be taken against vehicles operating without valid emission certification after the June 30 deadline, officials added.
