Samsung now ranks number one for smartphone activations in the first quarter of 2018 sales in the U.S. The numbers were indicated in a report published by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP). Up to 500 customers were surveyed to find out what brand of smartphone had they activated between the first quarter of 2018.
39 percent of the smartphones activated were of Samsung, while Apple and LG followed at second and third positions with 31 percent and 14 percent activations respectively. All other brands amounted to 17 percent of smartphone activations. Apple led the number of smartphone activations in the last quarter of previous year, however, with the launch of Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus in February, Samsung was able to secure the first spot.
While brand loyalty is concerned, Apple is in the first spot maintaining its customer loyalty with 80 to 90 percent of customers upgrading from current iPhone to another. Samsung’s loyalty rate also reached over 70 percent for the last year, while LG and Motorola have also experienced increased brand loyalty.
The report also indicates that Samsung’s share has been improving with the recent quarters. With the anticipated release of Galaxy Note 9, it will be interesting to see whether Samsung will be maintaining its growth indicators within the upcoming quarter.
