Yesterday, hacker group ShinyHunters dumped internal information belonging to Rockstar Games. The studio reportedly refused to pay a ransom to withhold the data. Many fans assumed this leak would contain details about the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto (GTA) VI. However, that is clearly not the case.

No GTA VI Details in the Leak
ShinyHunters did not release any data regarding GTA VI. Twitter users reviewing the dumped files confirm they only contain internal financial data about Rockstar Studios. Consequently, the leak simply highlights the massive revenue generated by Grand Theft Auto (GTA) V Shark Cards.
The hackers compromised Rockstar’s Snowflake instances. They achieved this through Anodot, an AI-driven analytics service used by businesses. Furthermore, ShinyHunters released a statement refuting rumors that they planned to sell the data to other bidders. They are likely using this financial leak to pressure Rockstar into paying the initial ransom. It remains unclear if the group possesses more damaging information or secondary vulnerabilities.
Rockstar Games Remains Unfazed
Rockstar Games consistently refuses to cave to hacker demands. The studio does not believe this recent leak contains anything materially worthwhile. Fans should absolutely avoid downloading the ShinyHunters dump. These files carry a severe risk of malware, making the download entirely unworthy of the risk.
Rockstar faces a long history of cyber trouble. Back in 2022, a teenager used an Amazon Fire Stick to hack the studio and successfully obtained actual GTA VI information. Ultimately, authorities handed that hacker an indefinite hospital sentence. Law enforcement considers this type of hack a major felony. Therefore, ShinyHunters members will likely face significant prison sentences if caught.
