The Sindh cabinet has approved emergency off-budget funding for the long-delayed Karachi Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, aiming to accelerate construction on a key section of the corridor in Karachi.
According to a statement from the CM House Sindh, the government has awarded the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) contract for a 12.85-kilometer stretch from Numaish Chowrangi to Mosamiyat after the previous contractor was removed over delays and non-compliance.
The cabinet approved a government-to-government arrangement with the Frontier Works Organisation and directed that major construction work, including mixed-traffic lanes, underpasses, elevated structures, and drainage systems along University Road, be completed within 90 days.
Officials said the FWO has already mobilized machinery and personnel at the site to speed up development and reduce traffic congestion along the corridor.
Briefing the media after the cabinet meeting, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the cabinet also approved multiple administrative and development measures, including over Rs. 916.1 million for food arrangements in prisons across Sindh.
The cabinet further approved a new legal framework for the management of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and National Institute of Child Health (NICH), along with a uniform postgraduate admissions system for government medical institutions.
Officials said Rs. 4.739 billion has been allocated for 3,794 training seats under the revised medical education plan.
