The Sindh government is expanding its electric scooter training program for women to Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana, following its positive results in Karachi. The initiative aims to boost women’s mobility and economic independence through sustainable transport solutions.
The decision was finalized during a meeting chaired by Sindh’s Senior Minister for Information and Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon. Officials discussed key developments in the province’s transport and mass transit projects, emphasizing the government’s focus on inclusive growth.
Sharjeel Memon said the provincial administration is taking practical steps to empower women by improving their access to safe and affordable travel. The training program, launched in collaboration with a private partner, is designed to help women gain confidence and learn the skills needed to ride e-scooters independently.
Participants who complete the course will also receive free driving licenses, removing financial barriers and encouraging greater participation.
The meeting also reviewed progress on major infrastructure works, including the Taj Haider Bridge, an essential part of Karachi’s Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. Memon confirmed that the bridge construction has been completed and will soon open to the public.
In addition, the government approved a new electric bus route connecting Gulshan-e-Maymar to Merewether Tower. The route will include 15 eco-friendly buses aimed at promoting cleaner and more efficient urban transport in Karachi.
