Pakistan Set to Launch First-Ever National E-Sports Policy
The government is officially recognising the potential of the gaming industry. During the opening ceremony of the International MOIC Summit Pakistan 2025 today, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP), Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, announced that Pakistan will soon introduce its first-ever National E-Sports Policy.
National E-Sports Policy: Impacts on Gamers & Digital Innovators
This upcoming policy aims to expand opportunities for youth engagement within the rapidly growing digital and gaming sectors. Consequently, it seeks to diversify career pathways for young Pakistanis, moving beyond traditional fields. Rana Mashhood described international platforms like the MOIC Summit as effective avenues for emerging leadership. He noted that these forums allow young innovators, entrepreneurs, and professionals to exchange ideas and collaborate with global partners.
The details of the National E-Sports Policy have not been revealed yet. Pakistan’s E-sports scene is already thriving without the government’s support. This intrusion can easily go south if not regulated properly. The policy-makers should at least know a thing or two regarding e-sports and how it works. Ignoring deep research can create unfavourable circumstances for hardworking young gamers and entrepreneurs. Also, this policy has been appearing in discussions for 9 months.
The ‘4Es’ Roadmap
Beyond gaming, the Chairman highlighted the broader strategy of the PMYP. The government is focusing on a framework of “4Es”: Education, Engagement, Employment, and Environment.
- Education: Includes scholarships and academic support.
- Employment: Focuses on skill development programs.
- Engagement & Environment: Aims to create a fair, inclusive atmosphere for growth.
Rana Mashhood emphasised that these initiatives remain grounded in merit and equal opportunity. He asserted that the federal government is building upon the legacy of Pakistan’s first National Youth Policy, which was originally launched in Punjab under then-Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
