Bad news hits the Resident Evil community today. Resident Evil Requiem will not receive a physical Collector’s Edition. While Capcom remains silent on the specific reason, industry chatter points toward a purely economic culprit in the shape of US President Donald Trump.
According to gaming insider Dusk Golem, the policies and tariffs issued by the Trump administration are the primary cause. These tariffs, implemented in early 2025, have significantly driven up manufacturing costs. Consequently, Capcom reportedly chose to skip the high-end physical bundle for this release.
The Cost of Gaming Rises
This financial strain is not unique to Capcom. The entire industry felt the impact immediately after the administration implemented these tariffs last year. Analysts noted that games and consoles would become more expensive to make, forcing companies to pass costs to consumers globally.
For example, Sony increased prices on its PS5 console lineup in the second half of 2025. Similarly, the Xbox console lineup saw two distinct price increases throughout 2025. Now, these rising costs appear to have claimed the Resident Evil Requiem Collector’s Edition as their latest victim.
Resident Evil Requiem: Gameplay & Release Details
Despite the merchandising setback, the game itself looks promising. During the January 15 Resident Evil Showcase, Capcom revealed that Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27. The title features two distinct gameplay styles:
- Grace Ashcroft: Her segments focus on survival horror, similar to Resident Evil Village. Players can even select an optional difficulty setting that returns ink ribbons and limited saves.
- Leon S. Kennedy: Fan-favourite Leon returns in action-focused levels. Utilising the style of the Resident Evil 4 Remake, he will wield heavy weaponry to cut down hordes of zombies.
Alternative Collectables
Collectors still have options, though they differ from past releases. Physical copies of the Base and Deluxe Editions are available. Additionally, a premium steelbook version of the Deluxe Edition is available at various retailers. Note that the “Deluxe” goods, costumes and weapon skins for Grace and Leon, are completely digital.
Nintendo users get a specific treat. A Resident Evil Requiem edition of the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller launches alongside the game. However, be prepared to pay. The controller carries an eye-watering $100 price tag, a $10 increase from the base model.
Furthermore, Capcom confirmed a future Amiibo lineup and 1/6 scale statues of Leon and Grace. However, these statues won’t arrive until the fall of 2026. With manufacturing costs showing no signs of slowing down, fans should act quickly before prices potentially jump again.
