The Punjab government has announced revised school timings for Ramadan 2026, adjusting daily schedules for single and double-shift institutions to accommodate students and teachers observing the fast. The new timetable, effective throughout the holy month, shortens school hours and modifies Friday schedules across the province.
According to a notification issued by the School Education Department on February 16, all single-shift schools will operate from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM from Monday to Thursday, while Friday classes will end at 12:30 PM. For double-shift institutions, the morning shift will run from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by the evening shift from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on weekdays. On Fridays, the second shift will function from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM.
The department also directed that girls’ schools start and close 15 minutes earlier than these timings to ensure smoother management during Ramadan.
Every year, Punjab adjusts school hours during Ramadan to reduce academic strain and help students and staff balance fasting with studies. Similar reductions in school hours have been implemented in previous years, especially in warmer weather conditions, to maintain attendance and learning continuity.
“Revised Ramadan timings will be observed in all public and private schools across Punjab for the duration of the holy month,” the School Education Department said in its notification, adding that the changes aim to facilitate the fasting community while maintaining academic activities.
The announcement comes as education authorities also prepare for upcoming annual examinations in March, with class 9 and 10 date sheets already released. Adjusted Ramadan schedules are intended to ensure syllabus completion without overburdening students during fasting days, particularly as Ramadan 2026 is expected to fall in relatively longer and warmer days.
