Apple has acquired MotionVFX, a company that has spent over 15 years building professional-grade plug-ins, templates, and visual effects tools for Apple’s Final Cut Pro video editing software. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, and Apple did not publicly comment on the acquisition.
MotionVFX confirmed the deal in a message on its website, saying it was “thrilled” to join the Apple team. The Warsaw-based company, founded in 2009, offers subscription packages starting at $29 per month and has built a reputation among professional video editors for high-quality motion graphics, titles, transitions, and effects designed specifically for Apple’s editing ecosystem.
“This is the beginning of something truly wonderful!” MotionVFX added towards the end.
The acquisition fits squarely into Apple’s push to grow its services business, which accounted for more than 26% of the company’s revenue in its most recent fiscal year, up from 8.5% in 2015. In January, Apple launched Creator Studio, a $12.99-per-month subscription bundle that includes Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Pixelmator Pro, and several other creative apps across Mac and iPad. Integrating MotionVFX’s tools into that bundle would give Apple a richer offering for professional and semi-professional creators, and a stronger reason for users to subscribe.
The move also positions Apple to compete more directly with Adobe, whose Creative Cloud suite and Premiere Pro video editor remain the dominant tools in professional video production. By bringing MotionVFX’s capabilities in-house rather than leaving them as a third-party add-on, Apple can tighten the integration between effects tools and its editing software in ways that could appeal to creators looking for a more seamless, Apple-native workflow.
For MotionVFX, the acquisition represents the culmination of a long alignment with Apple’s ecosystem. The company has built its entire product line around Final Cut Pro and Apple’s Motion software, making it a natural fit. Whether existing MotionVFX subscribers will see their tools folded into Creator Studio or offered separately remains unclear.
