A high-level consultative meeting on the country’s fuel situation was held in Islamabad today, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. Officials reviewed the current fuel supply, noting that availability remains stable and adequate nationwide. The meeting also focused on ways to introduce a targeted subsidy for petroleum products using technology, ensuring fair and transparent distribution.
The session brought together federal and provincial leadership to discuss policy options and strategies. The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication presented plans to use digital tools to manage subsidies more efficiently.
Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah praised the federal government for keeping fuel supplies uninterrupted while urging public awareness on conserving energy.
Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb highlighted the need to prepare multiple scenarios in response to fluctuating petroleum prices.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Minister Muzzammil Aslam commended the federal and petroleum ministers for their effective management of oil supplies, noting that Pakistan’s performance has been better than several regional neighbors. Balochistan Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani also contributed to the discussions.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb stressed the importance of promoting responsible fuel consumption and ensuring that any subsidy policy remains fiscally balanced while helping the public. The meeting concluded with a consensus to speed up the development of a technologically-driven targeted subsidy framework and strengthen coordination between federal and provincial authorities.
