Google has announced its EV-focused navigation tools, bringing smarter charging support to more than 350 car models that work with Android Auto. The update strengthens Google Maps as a central tool for electric vehicle drivers who want easier trip planning.
With this rollout, drivers can now get charging suggestions directly inside Google Maps. The system recommends when and where to charge based on the EV model and its current battery level. As a result, drivers spend less time switching between apps and worrying about range.
Users can add their specific EV model to Google Maps. Once added, the app shows expected battery usage after entering a destination. If drivers also input their current charge level, the system suggests charging stops along the route. It also estimates battery level upon arrival and adjusts the ETA based on charging time.
Google powers this feature using smart data models that study vehicle details such as weight and battery size. At the same time, Maps processes live data, including traffic, road elevation, and weather conditions. These factors help improve route accuracy and charging recommendations.
The company says this intelligent trip planning feature will soon reach most EVs in the United States. Currently, more than 15 car brands already support the system, and Google plans to expand compatibility further.
