The German Embassy in Islamabad has temporarily suspended operations at its visa section. Authorities initiated this closure due to extensive road closures and heightened security arrangements across the capital. Specifically, these security measures are directly linked to the upcoming round of US-Iran negotiations expected next week.
German Ambassador to Pakistan, Ina Lepel, announced the decision through a post on X. She confirmed that the visa section will remain closed starting today, April 20, 2026, through at least April 21, 2026. Consequently, the embassy strongly advises applicants not to visit the premises during this period.
Ina Lepel (@GermanyinPAK) April 19, 2026
Translation:
Due to the road closures in Islamabad in view of the US–Iran negotiations, the Visa Section of the German Embassy will remain closed from tomorrow, April 20, 2026, until at least April 21, 2026.
Applicants are requested not to come to the Visa Section. Their appointments will be rescheduled.
Furthermore, officials assured applicants that the embassy will reschedule all previously planned visa appointments. Staff will communicate the updated appointment details directly to the affected individuals.
Meanwhile, authorities in Islamabad are actively enforcing strict security protocols ahead of the high-level diplomatic engagements. They have established restricted access zones and sealed major roads in sensitive areas. As a result, these measures will secure the anticipated movement of foreign delegations and handle the associated protocol arrangements.
Currently, the German embassy has not provided a confirmed reopening date beyond the initial two-day suspension window. However, officials indicated that visa services will resume immediately once security conditions normalize in the federal capital.
