Ubisoft recently confirmed one highly anticipated project. The company officially announced ‘Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced‘ on April 23, 2026. The reveal did not surprise many fans, as development details leaked numerous times over the past several years. However, multiple trusted insiders now claim a second remake is actively in development. This unannounced project will likely be the final remake for the franchise in the foreseeable future. Furthermore, it is expected to hit the market only after Black Flag Resynced launches.
The Unannounced Second Assassin’s Creed Remake
Tom Henderson dropped a major claim during the April 24 episode of the ‘Insider Gaming Weekly’ podcast. He stated Ubisoft is working on another remake focusing on one of the franchise’s earliest games.

Shortly after, French YouTuber and frequent leaker j0nathan corroborated this report on April 26. He mentioned hearing similar details from contacts back in 2023. Additionally, j0nathan made an educated guess regarding the mystery title. He believes Ubisoft is actively remaking the original 2007 Assassin’s Creed.
Why the 2007 Original Needs a Modern Overhaul
Rebuilding the 2007 original requires a significantly more transformative effort than updating Black Flag. Ubisoft Montreal released the first game in November 2007. Consequently, the title visibly shows its age. It suffers from a highly repetitive mission structure and one-dimensional combat. Moreover, players often find the controls clunky compared to modern sensibilities.
Currently, the 2007 classic remains the only mainline installment without a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S port. A full remake allows Ubisoft to preserve a franchise-defining story for a new generation of gamers. Simultaneously, developers can completely rebuild the experience to meet modern series standards.
What to Expect First
Ubisoft prioritized the Black Flag project because the original game remains a massive fan-favorite. Its core foundation already holds up incredibly well today. Elements like naval combat, hunting, exploration, and a cinematic story structure require much less transformation than the 2007 original.
The publisher officially dropped the “4” from the upcoming game’s title. Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced officially releases on July 9, 2026. Gamers must wait until after this summer launch to see if the original Assassin’s Creed truly returns.
