Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans have a massive reason to celebrate. Yesterday, during the opening day of Summer Game Fest, PlatinumGames officially announced a brand-new title. The acclaimed studio behind Bayonetta is adapting the fan-favorite TMNT: The Last Ronin storyline into an action-adventure video game.

A Dark Future for Michelangelo in TMNT: The Last Ronin
The Last Ronin easily stands out as one of the darkest stories in the entire TMNT universe. Originally debuting as a five-issue comic miniseries, the plot explores a grim, alternate future. Shredder’s grandson has taken total control of New York City. Consequently, Michelangelo survives as the sole remaining main character. Now, the lone ninja turtle seeks brutal vengeance against Shredder’s lineage for the deaths of his three brothers.
During the main presentation, PlatinumGames showcased a brief cinematic teaser. The trailer featured eerie images of a sewer entrance and a manhole cover. However, the developer did not reveal any actual gameplay footage. They also did not confirm an official release date.
Interestingly, this is not the first attempt at a Last Ronin video game. Back in 2023, Black Forest Games announced its own adaptation under publisher THQ Nordic. Because that studio shared no major updates following the initial reveal, the industry believes that specific project was canceled internally before PlatinumGames stepped in. Furthermore, Paramount Pictures officially put a planned movie adaptation on hold in late 2025.
The Ongoing TMNT Resurgence
This new game announcement perfectly highlights a major resurgence for the TMNT franchise over recent years. In 2024, Nickelodeon launched the Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series on Paramount Plus. Meanwhile, gamers recently received multiple titles, including Tactical Takedown and Shredder’s Revenge. The heroes even appeared in a Magic: The Gathering crossover set earlier in 2026. Ultimately, fans have a lot to look forward to as PlatinumGames works on this highly anticipated dark release.
