Developer Ad Hoc recently released a highly anticipated update for its hit superhero management game, Dispatch. The brand-new “HR Violations” DLC pack is now available for free across all platforms. Consequently, this update directly addresses the heavy censorship controversy that plagued the Nintendo Switch version earlier this year.
Fixing the Nintendo Switch Bait-and-Switch
Dispatch originally launched its episodic run throughout October and November of last year. It quickly achieved critical and commercial success. The game perfectly blends Telltale’s classic choose-your-own-adventure formula with real-time superhero dispatch management. However, the Nintendo Switch release in January caught fans off guard.
The Switch version launched with heavy censorship that completely contradicted North American promotional trailers. Ad Hoc recently addressed this misstep on the official Dispatch Discord server. The developer admitted that time and budget constraints forced them to create a single Switch build. Therefore, that specific build had to comply with the strictest regional censorship laws worldwide.
Fortunately, the HR Violations DLC corrects this mistake. The pack finally brings the Switch version up to par with the Steam and PS5 releases. Partial nudity and rude gestures are now fully visible. Meanwhile, the game still censors full nudity and explicit audio. For example, the character Toxic remains covered up, and Invisigal’s dream sequence keeps its audio muted.
Dispatch ‘Utter Chaos’ Option & Custom Censorship
The new update offers benefits beyond just the Nintendo Switch. The HR Violations DLC introduces a new feature that lets players control how the game handles its raunchier scenes.
Players can now choose from three distinct censorship styles. You can select the traditional “mosaic” or standard “black bars”. Alternatively, you can choose the “utter chaos” option. This comedic setting actively mocks the censorship by putting jorts on Toxic or slapping the Dispatch logo’s cape over Sonar’s middle finger.
Nintendo Switch players must actively download the HR Violations pack from the eShop DLC menu. Conversely, Steam and PS5 players will automatically receive these new censorship options through a standard game update.
