Pakistan Railways has suspended the operation of the Jaffar Express for today, disrupting one of the country’s key long-distance passenger train services connecting Quetta and Peshawar.
According to railway sources, the suspension has been imposed due to “unavoidable reasons.” Officials confirmed that the Peshawar-bound service departing from Pakistan Railways Quetta station will not run today.
In addition, the incoming service from Peshawar has been stopped at Jacobabad Junction and will be returned without completing its journey to Quetta, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded and seeking alternative travel arrangements.
The Jaffar Express is one of Pakistan Railways’ most significant intercity routes, operating between Quetta and Peshawar and passing through major cities across Sindh and Punjab. The service is widely used by students, traders, government employees, and families traveling between provinces.
Railway officials did not disclose specific reasons for the suspension; however, the route has previously faced repeated disruptions due to operational challenges, security concerns, and infrastructure-related issues. In earlier incidents, the train has also been halted at Jacobabad, a key railway junction along the route.
Passengers affected by the cancellation have been advised to contact Pakistan Railways booking offices and inquiry counters for updates regarding ticket refunds and possible rescheduling. The department has typically offered refund facilities in similar cases of service suspension.
The Jaffar Express operates on the nearly 1,600-kilometre route between Quetta and Peshawar, making it a critical transport link connecting Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.
