A drone carrying around 5kg of heroin crashed onto the roof of a house in Mohalla Rafiqabad, Narang Mandi, Muridke Tehsil, Sheikhupura District, prompting police to register a case against unidentified suspects.
Sheikhupura DPO Bilal Zafar Sheikh said police were alerted after the drone fell within the limits of Narang Police Station. Officers reached the site, recovered the drone and the narcotics, and cordoned off the area.
The drone was black, measuring around three feet in length. A packet wrapped in yellow tape with reflective lights was found inside it. Police said the packet contained approximately 5kg of heroin.
The DPO said it remains unclear whether the drone was being used to smuggle drugs across the border or transport them to another destination within the country.
In another development, the Punjab government has extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province, imposing a 30-day ban on outdoor drone operations due to security concerns.
Issued under Section 144-VI of the Criminal Procedure Code 1898 by the Punjab Home Secretary, the restriction aims to ensure public safety, maintain law and order, and protect property.
Law enforcement institutions and intelligence agencies are exempt from the ban, and provincial administration and police forces have been directed to strictly enforce the order.
Limited use of small drones remains permitted for indoor events inside halls and marquees. Under these rules, event organizers are held responsible for ensuring the safe operation of the devices during indoor functions.
